I'll admit, even though I'm a summer girl, once fall rolls around I'm always ready to bring out my boots, rich neutrals, and all of my favorite fall pieces.

The problem? The weather doesn't always get the memo.

Here in Las Vegas, warm temperatures can stick around well into September and October, so dressing for fall when it's still hot outside can be a bit of a balancing act. I want my outfits to feel like fall without sweating through sweaters, heavy jackets, and layers that make absolutely no sense for the actual temperature.

That's where warm weather fall outfits come in. Instead of completely switching over your wardrobe, you can keep many of your summer staples in rotation and make them feel more seasonal with fall colors, textures, accessories, shoes, and lightweight layers.

Below, I'm sharing my favorite tips for transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall, plus plenty of early fall outfit ideas you can copy while the weather is still warm.

What Do You Wear in Early Fall When It's Still Hot?

When it’s still hot in early fall, the easiest way to dress for the season is to keep your lightweight summer staples in rotation while incorporating fall colors, textures, shoes, and accessories. Think breathable dresses with ankle boots, shorts paired with lightweight knits, or trousers with simple tanks and tees. Removable layers like cardigans and light jackets are also perfect for cooler mornings and evenings without leaving you overheated during the day.

Tips for Dressing for Fall When It's Still Hot

Dressing for fall in warm weather is all about finding simple ways to make your outfits feel more seasonal without adding unnecessary warmth. Here are a few of my favorite ways to transition your wardrobe while temperatures are still high.

1. Layers Are Your Friend

Layering is one of the easiest ways to make a warm weather outfit feel more like fall without overheating. Try lightweight layers like vests, button-down shirts, or open-knit cardigans that you can easily take on or off as temperatures shift throughout the day.

Tip: Try pairing a simple summer dress with an open-knit cardigan or lightweight jacket for an easy warm weather fall outfit that still works on hot days.

2. Embrace Fall Colors and Textures

Even if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can still dress for the season by incorporating rich fall colors like brown, olive, rust, camel, and burgundy. You can also bring in seasonal textures with pieces made from suede, faux leather, or corduroy to give a lightweight outfit more of a fall feel without adding heavy layers.

3. Choose Lightweight, Breathable Fabrics

Stick to breathable materials like cotton, linen, or rayon to stay cool while still looking seasonally appropriate. Look for fall-inspired pieces like trousers, button-down shirts, midi dresses, and lightweight knits in breathable fabrics to strike the perfect balance between comfort and style.

4. Swap Summer Sandals for Fall Shoes

Trade your summer sandals for shoes that feel more like fall, such as loafers, clogs, mules, or ankle boots in lighter materials. These options can still keep your feet cool while instantly giving your outfit a more autumn-ready look.

5. Swap Summer Bags for Fall Bags

Pack away straw totes and rattan bags, and bring out leather, suede, or structured bags in warm, earthy tones. A simple bag swap is one of the quickest ways to transition your outfit into fall without changing much else!

6. Swap Summer Hats for Fall Hats

Put away your straw hats and reach for felt fedoras or wool wide-brim hats instead. They’re an easy way to elevate your look and make it feel more like fall, even when it’s still sunny and 80 degrees out.

7. Add Light Fall Outerwear

Lightweight outerwear like cropped jackets, shirt jackets, or sleeveless trenches can complete your fall transition outfits without adding too much warmth. Look for breathable options in neutral or autumn tones that make your outfit feel more seasonal while still keeping you comfortable.

Summer to Fall Transition Outfits for Warm Weather

When transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall, you don't have to stop wearing your favorite warm-weather pieces right away. Some of my favorite summer-to-fall transition outfits combine lightweight basics with seasonal colors, textures, shoes, and accessories to create a fall-inspired look without adding too much warmth.

Below are a few of my own fall transition outfits that I've worn during those in-between weeks when it still feels like summer outside.

SHOP THE LOOK:  DRESS  |  SIMILAR DRESS  |  ALTERNATE DRESS  |  WRAP  |  ALTERNATE WRAP  |  SHOES  |  BAG‍ ‍(find it on Poshmark)

This lightweight knit dress is perfect for those early fall days when it’s still warm outside. I added a fringe wrap and tan ankle boots to give it more of a fall feel—the wrap is especially nice for cooler mornings and evenings or when you end up somewhere that’s blasting the AC! Since mine is currently sold out, I linked a similar option that’s even lighter for warm weather.

SHOP THE LOOK: HAT  | SIMILAR T-SHIRT  | PANTS  | SHOES  | BAG

One of the easiest ways to create a warm weather fall outfit is to simply swap your summer colors for richer fall tones. I paired a basic black T-shirt with lightweight brown trousers, sneakers, and a matching baseball cap for a casual look that feels like fall without adding any extra layers.

SHOP THE LOOK:  SUNGLASSES  |  TOP  |  TRENCH  |  SIMILAR TRENCH  |  SIMILAR TRENCH  |  ALTERNATE TRENCH  |  JEANS  |  SHOES  |  BAG

I love this look for the summer-to-fall transition because it has the lightness of a summer outfit with just a subtle hint of fall. The white tank and jeans keep the base fresh and lightweight, while the cropped trench and brown suede bag add just enough warmth and texture to make the outfit feel more seasonal.

SHOP THE LOOK:  HAT  |  SIMILAR JACKET  |  T-SHIRT  |  BOTTOMS  |  SHOES  |  BAG

For casual early fall outfits, I love sticking with comfortable basics and adding a lightweight layer that I can easily take off if it gets too warm. This beige jacket is layered over a thin cropped T-shirt with flared leggings and sneakers, making it an easy look for running errands, traveling, or lounging around the house.

SHOP THE LOOK:  HAT  |  JUMPSUIT  |  SIMILAR JUMPSUIT  |  SIMILAR JACKET  |  SIMILAR JACKET  |  SHOES

A lightweight jumpsuit makes an easy base for fall outfits when it’s still hot because it works perfectly on its own during the day. I added brown accessories and a felt hat for a little more fall vibe, then kept a light denim jacket on hand for cooler mornings and evenings. The hat is totally optional, but it’s such a fun way to make a simple outfit feel more seasonal!

SHOP THE LOOK:  HAT  |  ROMPER  |  SIMILAR ROMPER  |  ALTERNATE ROMPER  |  BELT  |  SHOES  |  SIMILAR BAG

A lightweight romper is another summer staple you can easily carry into early fall. I styled this black romper with brown ankle boots, a woven belt, and a felt hat to give it a more seasonal look without adding any heavy layers. The hat is optional, of course, but I love how much personality it adds!

SHOP THE LOOK: JACKET  |  SKORT  |  BAG  |  SHOES

A skirt (or skort) is another easy piece to carry into early fall. I layered my white skort with a lightweight jacket for an easy late summer outfit that transitions perfectly into early fall. The brown suede tote bag and neutral sneakers add subtle fall colors and texture while still keeping the look comfortable for warmer days.

SHOP THE LOOK:  SHIRT  |  T-SHIRT  |  SIMILAR T-SHIRT  |  SHORTS  |  SHOES  |  BAG

Shorts can still work for early fall when the weather is warm! I paired these satin lace shorts with a simple white t-shirt and lightweight denim shirt, then added suede mules and a warm tan bag to make the outfit feel more fall-ready. Mixing lightweight summer pieces with fall textures and warmer neutrals is one of my favorite ways to create a summer-to-fall transition outfit feel chic and polished without overheating.

Early Fall Outfits for Warm Weather

When the calendar says fall but the weather still feels like summer, the key is choosing lightweight pieces in fall-inspired colors, textures, and silhouettes.

These early fall outfits combine warm-weather staples with seasonal pieces like denim, lightweight knits, suede, boots, and richer neutral tones. Feel free to use these outfit ideas as inspiration for those in-between days when it’s still too warm for traditional fall layers.

Denim Shirt + Black Shorts

SHOP THE LOOK:  SUNGLASSES  |  TANK  |  JACKET  |  SHORTS  |  SHOES  |  SOCKS  |  BAG

A lightweight denim shirt is one of my favorite layers for transitioning into fall while it’s still warm outside. Pair it with a simple white tank, black denim shorts, and suede clogs for an easy casual outfit that feels more fall-ready without adding too much warmth.

Flared Leggings + Lightweight Sweater

SHOP THE LOOK:  TOP  |  SWEATER  |  LEGGINGS  |  SHOES  |  BAG

For a casual early fall outfit, pair black flared leggings with a white tank and lightweight neutral sweater. You can wear the sweater when temperatures cool down or take it off during the warmer part of the day, while cozy clogs and a quilted bag add subtle fall texture.

White Jeans + Denim Shirt

SHOP THE LOOK:  TOP  |  JEANS  |  SUNGLASSES  |  BAG  |  SHOES

Don’t pack away your white jeans once summer ends! Style them with a short-sleeve denim shirt and brown ankle boots to make them feel instantly more seasonal. A woven brown bag and warm-toned accessories bring even more fall color into the look.

White Maxi Skirt + Sweater Tank

SHOP THE LOOK:  TOP  |  SKIRT  |  SUNGLASSES  |  BAG  |  SHOES

A white maxi skirt can easily transition into early fall when paired with warmer textures and colors. Try adding a tan sweater tank, suede tote, and neutral mules for a light and breathable outfit that still incorporates those cozy fall neutrals.

Black Mini Skirt + Lightweight Jacket

SHOP THE LOOK:  T-SHIRT  |  JACKET  |  SUNGLASSES  |  SKIRT  |  BAG  |  SHOES

A mini skirt is an easy way to start incorporating fall pieces while it’s still too warm for pants. Pair a black mini skirt with a simple black T-shirt, then add a lightweight brown jacket, Chelsea boots, and a brown bag to give the outfit a more seasonal feel.

Black Silk Midi Skirt + Lightweight Blazer

SHOP THE LOOK:  SUNGLASSES  |  T-SHIRT  |  BLAZER  |  SKIRT  |  BAG  |  SHOES

A silk midi skirt is a great transitional piece because it feels lightweight enough for warm weather while still looking polished for fall. Pair a black silk midi skirt with a simple white T-shirt, lightweight brown blazer, and sneakers for an easy mix of summer and fall pieces.

White Dress + Cardigan + Tall Boots

SHOP THE LOOK:  DRESS  |  CARDIGAN  |  SHOES  |  BAG

Give a simple white dress a fall update by pairing it with a cozy neutral cardigan and tall brown boots. This is an easy way to keep wearing your summer dresses as temperatures start to cool without completely switching over to a heavier fall wardrobe.

Knit Maxi Dress + Denim Jacket

SHOP THE LOOK:  SUNGLASSES  |  DRESS  |  JACKET  |  BAG  |  SHOES

A lightweight knit maxi dress is perfect for those in-between days when you want your outfit to feel like fall without overheating. Add a cropped denim jacket and sneakers for an easy casual look, then remove the jacket if the afternoon warms up.

Brown Maxi Dress + Lightweight Vest

SHOP THE LOOK:  DRESS  |  VEST  |  BAG  |  SHOES

You don’t necessarily need layers or closed-toe shoes to make an outfit feel seasonal. A chocolate brown maxi dress creates an instant fall color palette while still being comfortable in hot weather. Add a lightweight tan vest, woven bag, and sandals for an easy early fall look.

Trousers + Sleeveless Top

SHOP THE LOOK:  TOP  |  SIMILAR PANTS  |  BELT  |  SUNGLASSES  |  BAG  |  SHOES

For especially warm fall days, pair lightweight trousers with a sleeveless top and sandals. The camel and black color palette makes the outfit feel more seasonal while the sleeveless top and open-toe shoes keep it comfortable when temperatures still feel like summer.
