Tips for nailing best-dressed wedding guest

Want to slay the night away at a wedding? I’m sharing my top tips for earning best-dressed (and best behaved) wedding guest!

Don’t wear white

This should go without saying but, DO NOT wear white to a wedding! You never want to outshine the bride on her special day.

Avoid matching the bridesmaids

This isn’t a typical rule, and no one will really judge you for it, but try to avoid wearing the same color as the bridesmaids if you can. If you don’t know what color the bridesmaids dresses are, you can typically figure it out from the wedding’s color scheme, or if you’re still unsure, ask the bride herself.

Bring only what you need

If you’re typically an over-preparer like me, it can be hard not to cram your event bag with all of the things. However, the last thing you want is to lug around a heavy overstuffed bag around all night when you should be floating around freely with a drink in hand.

If you want to avoid bringing too many things, stick to a small event bag and only pack it with these key wedding guest essentials: phone, ID, cash (if it’s a cash bar), lipstick, compact makeup (for touch ups), bandaids (don’t let blisters ruin your night), and a hair clip, if possible (just in case you need to toss your hair up later). When it comes to jackets, if it’s not necessary, don’t bring one (or make sure to check it at the entrance if possible). The last thing you want is another thing to carry around!

Take photos at the beginning

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been to a wedding and forgot to take photos or even ended up with some sweaty snaps of us post-dance floor haha. You’re going to look your absolute best before the wedding, so do yourself a favor and get your pictures taken before the festivities begin, that way you never forget or end up with not-so-flattering end of the night photos.

Be considerate & enjoy the moment

The last thing the newlyweds want is someone’s cellphone in front of every one of their wedding photos. We all want to capture life’s beautiful moments, but I’ll be honest, these are photos I’ve never ended up looking back on and I’m pretty sure if you think about it, neither have you. Do yourself and the newlyweds a favor, put your phone down and just be in the moment as much as possible. Leave the bulk of the photo-taking to the photographer, you can snap a quick photo here and there (just be sure to keep your phone low to avoid obstructing the view of the photographer/videographer) when you have the chance and then put your phone away, you’ll be glad you did!
